To spread your wings, push down and lift off into weightlessness. To soar above the trees, glide across the fields; dive through the mist and to play in the clouds. It must be incredible.
Flight, the one thing humans can only dream of. For sure, we are here, based in the southern Pantanal to search for, and habituate, wild jaguars, but we sure do take the time to enjoy the smaller things. The daily miracle of flight
The other morning, whilst tracking a female jaguar, we came across a trailer fully loaded with cattle feed. The cowboys had left it there overnight. The Black-hooded Parakeets had discovered it and were using their sharp beaks to pierce the bags, sending the nutritious feed cascading out. It was the equivalent of finding a waterfall of chocolate. The birds were in heaven. Within minutes of its discovery and there were over 300 of the parakeets.
I could not believe the extraordinary array of electric colours. I crept closer and managed to capture some wonderful pictures and video. When I got too close they would momentarily explode up into the air and into flight. I was spellbound. Seconds later and they would gather the courage to return to the treasure. It made for one of the most remarkable sights I have had in the Pantanal.

We had completely forgotten that we were tracking a jaguar…
